From Thailand with Love
This box is either the apex or the nadir of my Aroid addiction. After I saw a beauty of a variegated Alocasia macrorrhizos at the SF Conservatory, I’ve been on the lookout for one. When I finally found a rhizome for sale on eBay, I scooped it up. It was only after I bought it that I noticed where it was shipping from: Thailand.
It arrived three weeks later, wrapped in twine, with its own phytosanitary certificate and everything, and immediately went into soil. I can’t say it’s done much since, but I live in hope.
Someday I hope to visit its homeland to see what Aroids look like in their native habitat. Until then, I’ve got my own jungle to tend.
