Elephant Ear Bloom
My Elephant Ear bloomed! Technically he’s an Alocasia odora. (At least, I think so. I bought him at a hardware store that’s not always very rigorous with their scientific names.) And it’s not a flower, actually, it’s an inflorescence, which is a cluster of flowers, and also a really cool word.
The bloom is amazing. Inside the sheath, there are two patterns – the top part looks like casserole, and the bottom part looks like bathroom tile hexagons. The smell is hard to describe. It’s somewhere between a Lilac flower and brand-new plastic. I love it.
