Plantgasm - I love plants too much. By Derek Powazek.

Paula Hayes' living art at MOMAIf you’re in New York City, don’t miss Paula Hayes’ two “living artworks” in the MoMa lobby (now through April 2011). I’d read about them online but found myself in NYC this week and got to see them in person.

The work is called “Nocturne of the Limax maximus” which sounds like the most pretentious thing ever, until you realize it’s a reference to big nocturnal slugs. The two pieces, Slug and Egg, are much larger than you’d expect, gorgeous to behold, and beautifully lit from the inside.

Sadly, the plants inside don’t look entirely happy – a little sparse, with fresh cinnamon powder sprinkled over spots probably to fight fungus – but it is winter, after all.

If you’re even vaguely botanically inclined and in the NY area, don’t miss this installation – it’s a sight to behold.
