I love Helen Mirren and have since the Oresteia on the BBC in 1979. I was sixteen and the sight of her and Diana Rigg in those costumes has stayed with me ever since.

However, if you ever see Greenfingers (called Jailbuds in some places, released in 2000) suspend your disbelief as high as you can. Helen names several plants that don’t seem to be there. The nadir of the film occurs in a shot of a violet in a border outdoors, a key point of the plot. The leaves are right but the flowers of an African Violet have been stuck on rather sloppily. Danny Dyer is also in it, for which I apologise to the world on behalf of all my countryfolk.

Dude. I love that Helen Mirren shot! THAT mos’ def made my morning. Thank you for posting that! Great way to start the morning, pre-coffee. I’ve seen that expression with Nepenthes happen with quite a few individuals that are unfamiliar to the genus. Especially the unopened pitchers. (Heh, heh…)
